I see, now that I've somehow found my way back to my blog, that I haven't written shit here in about a year! (Not that anyone bothers to read it anyhow!)
Suffice to say, I've just been too lazy. Oh, I'm still reading sleaze like always, but I cannot seem to will myself to write about it. But I will recommend an author you might check out: S. N. Burton. Stumbled across this author while looking at a few (usually boring) Gaslight books a few months back. The writing style reminds me of Gil Brewer's, for some odd reason.

Winter: A Time for sleaze?
Every year when it gets cold out (and here in Minnesota, it gets damn cold) I always think about sorting and re-shelving my sleaze paperbacks. Like I said, I "think" about it. I never get around to it. Every time I open a box of books, I get distracted by a title and start reading it. Pretty soon, I'm lying on the sofa laughing at the damned book. Naturally, then I get sleepy and want to take a nap.

Night Classics
Anyone know anything about Night Classics? I have several and they seem to be piracies of some sort or another. I'm currently reading one called "Madame Yes". (By Willis Carlisle) The title has very little to do with the subject of the book, cocksure-private-eye-goes-to-investigate-murder-at-a-mansion-beds-many-women. The other title I have is called "Madame Nemesis" (Julien Du Pont) and, if memory serves, starts out with a surfing scene. This line of books have blue, black and white covers with line-art drawing of sprawled nekkid babes on the covers. No publishing info or dates. They don't appear to be piracies from Pioneer but have a weird "Neva" look to them. Odd, but somewhat interesting.

Does anyone read these damn books?
Naturally, you might wonder, does this idiot blogger ever actually READ the books he harps about?
Well, yes, sometimes I do. Most are written pretty poorly but some do have redeeming value as printed entertainment. Hopefully in the future I will review selected titles. I plan on uploading some book pics as well. (Hey, I can't help it I'm lazy!)

Disclaimer (sort of)
The greatest sleaze titles of all time? My all time favorite has always been "Sea-Going She-Sluts", a nautical themed adult book that I have in my collection. Another title I have always been fond of was William Ard's "Don't Come Crying to Me" (Popular Library 639). Yes, I realize that it's not exactly a sleaze title, but what the hey, I like it.
Musings on my favorite sleaze publishers. (In no particular order.)
1. Nitime Swapbooks. (Later in the run's history they were changed to Nitime Storybooks.) Ah, the bizarre titles and Robert Bonfils cover art; what more could you ask for?
2. Novelbooks. Strange and elusive. I have been trying to assemble the entire run for years and am still only about 90% of the way into them.
3. Merit Books. No, not those idiotic digests from the early Fifties. I'm referring to the ones that were published by Camerarts, just like Novelbooks.
4. Raptures. At least some of these were published by PEC and are found in both the "tall" and "squat" formats. Colorful cover art and very odd themes, if you ask me.
5. All-Stars. (Related to Private Edition books.) Totally runs the gamut of oddball subject matter.
6. Chariots. Damn. I love those things...
7. Aquarius 7. Hokey photo covers. Not to be confused with their baby brothers, Bedroom Books.
8. Saber and Saber/Tropic. Really, the higher number Sabers are the best (and scarcest) but all the Tropics are cool.
9. Bedside. The only ones I don't like are those squat format ones with that hideous cover art. (#s 1225 to 1250---approximately.)
10. Dansk Blue Books. Pretty cool with weird titles.
All in all, I really admit to liking most sleaze/adult paperbacks. Ones I never care to see again (but will, undoubtedly) are that lame-o Scorpian book called "Wild Spree" or that Uptown entitled "He Kissed Her There". Those are possibly the most common books since Pat Boone's "Twixt Twelve and Twenty"!

Fed up with "experts".
Well, let's get things started off on the right foot here, huh? After collecting "vintage" sleaze (adult) paperbacks since the mid 80s, I am overwhelmed by the abundance of so-called "experts" out there in cyberland. Hey. Where were all of you before? How come I never ran into you at shows, sales, and whatnot? And why do you keep relating the same old crap about the "Mafia" owning the publishing house? Good god. Would organized crime waste their time on a penny-ante operation such as Exotik Books? Seems to me they want substantial profit margins. Anyhow, just my bitch for the day.
